Testing of textiles

Textiles are tested with regard to strength, wear (Martindale), pilling/fuzzing, light fastness (light, dry, wet) and fire resistance.

Textiles are tested in a special device where they are subjected to the wear test - the so-called Martindale wear test.

Domestic/Ordinary use:
1.
Wear over 20,000
2. Pilling: 3-4 (5 highest, 1 lowest)
3. Light fastness: 5 (8 highest, 1 lowest)
4. Fastness to rubbing, dry: 4 (5 highest, 1 lowest)
5. Fastness to rubbing, wet: 3 (5 highest, 1 lowest)

Domestic/Heavy duty use:
1. Wear over 25,000
2. Pilling: 3-4 (5 highest, 1 lowest)
3. Light fastness: 5 (8 highest, 1 lowest)
4. Fastness to rubbing, dry: 4 (5 highest, 1 lowest)
5. Fastness to rubbing, wet: 3 (5 highest, 1 lowest)

Public environment/Heavy duty use:
1. Wear over 50,000
2. Pilling: 4-5 (5 highest, 1 lowest)
3. Light fastness: 6 (8 highest, 1 lowest)
4. Fastness to rubbing, dry: 4-5 (5 highest, 1 lowest)
5. Fastness to rubbing, wet: 3-4 (5 highest, 1 lowest)


Martindale wear test in accordance with: EN ISO 12947-2


The strength of textiles is tested in accordance with: EN-ISO 13934-1, EN-ISO 13937-3, EN-ISO 13936-2, EN-ISO 13938-1


Textiles are tested with regard to pilling/fuzzing in accordance with: EN ISO 12945-2


The light fastness of textiles (light, dry, wet) is tested in accordance with: EN ISO-105 B02, EN-ISO 105x12


Ignitability is tested in accordance with: NS-EN 1021-1, NS-EN 597-1


Fire - Cigarette test - No ignition in accordance with: NS-EN 1021 (and NS-EN 597-1)

  • This is the so-called 'cigarette test'. The requirement is that mattresses and upholstered furniture must resist ignition by a smouldering cigarette. This is a statutory requirement in Norway, see Regulation on the ignitability of mattresses and upholstered furniture.

Ban on flame retardants 

  • Products with mobelfakta.no approval are guaranteed free from brominated flame retardants (statutory requirement)
